The Economy of Commerce
The Commerce of Economy evolved out my continual anxiety over personal fiscal matters.
Isolating and enlarging the four corners of the face of an American dollar bill, I etched each corner's numeral and accompanying distinct decorative components on a sheet of glass. When lit from above, the number one exists as a void created by the negative spaces of the design elements surrounding it, alluding to both American exceptionalism (to be “number one”) and the tenuous value of our currency.
Each glass panel is approximately 24” x 29”.
Installation configurations vary.
